Under-Secretary-General Atul Khare's Message on UN Women's Field-specific Enabling Environment Guidelines

Background.

UN Women launched Guidelines earlier this year to help increase the representation of women in the field and accelerate efforts to reach gender parity in the UN system. Achieving gender parity is NOT just a question of numbers, but it is also a question of Organizational Culture - and creating the right enabling environment, with the right incentives, for the right behaviors to help us all achieve gender parity.

The Guidelines.

The Guidelines include concrete and actionable recommendations to help field offices attract, recruit, and retain women. They were created through a consultative approach with nearly 200 colleagues in 50+ countries where the UN operates, and they support the UN Secretary-General's System-wide Strategy on Gender Parity (2017) and complement the Enabling Environment Guidelines for the UN System (2019).
