The United Nations head of Operational Support today kicked off the initial nomination period for the launch of a new Surge Capacity Pool to facilitate rapid deployment of current UN staff to address critical situations faced by the Secretariat.

For the initial pilot exercise, limited to targeted operational support functions across the Secretariat, including administration, supply chain management, medical, and technology functions, nominations can be made in inspira until midnight on 21 July 2019.

Nominations are invited from experienced current UN staff across the Secretariat.  See the complete list of targeted operational support functions here targeted operational support functions.

Staff members are invited to complete the self-nomination form in inspira.  The nomination page in inspira provides further details of the requirements and assessment methodology.

Mr. Atul Khare, launched the new Surge Capacity Pool last month in writing to the heads of all Secretariat entities.  The initiative aims to establish a pool of highly experienced staff from around the Secretariat who are available for an urgent response to a humanitarian or post-conflict situation, including a newly mandated field operation, or an emergency.

Successful candidates will be placed on a pool for one year, with a commitment to deploy within as little as one week, for a period of up to 90 days.  Relevant managers would be expected to provide their agreement to availability at the outset of placement in the new pool.  Such a deployment would be subject to the entitlements usually applicable in such situations and would not affect your regular status within the Secretariat.

Minimum requirements include five years of continuous service in a relevant function; three years of satisfactory performance; ongoing contractual status; and existing inclusion on a FCRB/CRB roster for the relevant role at the grade of the candidacy or above.  Applicants will be further assessed taking into account additional experience, good performance, language skills, and gender balance.

Staff members are invited to complete the self-nomination form in inspira.  The nomination page in inspira provides further details of the requirements and assessment methodology.

If you are confident that you have the knowledge and expertise, and are willing to contribute your skills in the event of a critical situation, please apply in inspira .
