A new ammunition module has been added to the Uniformed Capabilities Management System, a system that streamlines and enables end-to-end planning for uniformed capabilities management for troop and police contributing countries.
The ammunition module is a comprehensive solution to record, monitor, and manage contingent-owned ammunition. It standardizes the ammunition inventory across all missions based on parameters provided by the UN Manual on Ammunition Management and the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines. It aims to provide accurate reporting of ammunition deployed in each mission. The operationalization of the ammunition module will enable the field missions to generate inspections and record all transactions throughout the life cycle of the contingent-owned ammunition. The solution provides transparency and establishes a platform for easy access to the status of deployed ammunition in field missions for senior leadership.
The ammunition module was launched by Under-Secretary General, Atul Khare, in August, alongside other senior leaders of the Department of Operational Support (DOS) and the Department of Peace Operations.
Mr. Khare welcomed the new module.
“This tool has evolved continuously to strive for excellence and to bring a more reliable instrument to better serve the Member States and to facilitate the work of the colleagues here in New York and in all our field missions,” he said.
The solution is expected to be enriched further, with the inclusion of performance analyses and data reporting, as well as potential future functionality related to ammunition reimbursements and claims.
The module was developed within DOS’s Office of Supply Chain Management, specifically by the Uniformed Capabilities Support Division in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology and Communications. Its development was supported the UN Mine Action Service, the Police Division, and the Office of Military Affairs, all three of which are entities of the Department of Peace Operations.
