Ebola Virus Disease (EBOD)

Ebola disease (EBOD) is a highly contagious and deadly disease that periodically causes outbreaks in several African countries and is caused by orthoebolaviruses. People can get EBOD through direct contact with an infected animal (bat or nonhuman primate) or the blood and bodily fluids of a sick or dead person infected with orthoeEbolavirus.

The four species that cause human disease are Orthoebolavirus zairense (virus name: Ebola virus); Orthoebolavirus sudanese (virus name: Sudan virus); Orthoebolavirus bundibugyoense (virus name: Bundibugyo virus) and Orthoebolavirus taiense (virus name: Taï Forest virus). Orthoebolavirus restonense (virus name: Reston virus) seroconversions have been found in some animal handlers who have worked with infected animals; however, these infections were not associated with clinical disease.
