The Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) recently hosted the 2025 Rations Workshop, focusing on the critical importance of providing quality, safe, and nutritionally balanced rations to UN peacekeeping missions, as well as providing cutting-edge food provisioning solutions based on recent requirements. This event, held online in April, attracted over 60 participants from 10 locations worldwide, including representatives from UN missions and contractors.

Key discussions centered around the automated and standardized approach to rations management and the exploration of alternative food provisioning models, especially in challenging environments pursuant to the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2719 (2023). The workshop included a presentation of the completed quality management module of the UN’s electronic rations management system (eRMS), and a presentation of proposed new food provisioning models. Participants actively engaged in breakout sessions, offering valuable insights and feedback, and raising thought-provoking questions for the further development of the eRMS and new food provisioning models.

The workshop provided essential insights into future enhancements of the eRMS, developing future projects, and the need for improved knowledge in contracts and quality management. Moving forward, OSCM will continue the progressive rollout of the eRMS quality management module to all missions, study the possibility of centralizing and automating the rations supplier and product validation process, and advance new food provisioning models.
