Chikungunya

What it is:
Chikungunya is a viral illness characterized by sudden fever and severe joint pain, often accompanied by fatigue, rash, and muscle aches.

Cause:
It is caused by the chikungunya virus, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes—primarily Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.

Prevention:
Prevention focuses on avoiding mosquito bites by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, using mosquito nets or screens, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
